In hospitals, many processes unfortunately rely on literal and metaphorical games of telephone. Providers expend time relaying information to each other, which can delay patient care. NYPNotify was created by the NewYork-Presbyterian Innovation Center to address this issue.
NYPNotify is a mobile application that delivers real-time notifications to clinicians' smartphones. Providers use NYPNotify to automatically communicate information. In the Post Anesthesia Care Units (PACUs), the application is used to alert a clinician that a patient is in pain. Anesthesiologists receive a notification when their patient’s pain score has been entered as seven or higher in the patient’s electronic medical record. As the anesthesiologist is alerted of pain immediately, they can address the patient’s pain more rapidly. Traditionally, this process was completed in approximately two hours: with NYPNotify, it takes approximately seven minutes.
